Frequently asked questions about hypnosis
Find answers to common questions about hypnosis, hypnotherapy and your appointment.
Direct hypnosis, focused on your goal
In most cases, we use direct hypnosis. We speak directly to the subconscious about the change you consciously want to make. Our sessions are short and focused: the intention is for your subconscious to do the work. We do not teach relaxation exercises or search for triggers.
How many sessions will I need?
The number varies from person to person. We work in a short, focused way. Change is often noticeable after one session. Together, you discuss whether further work would be useful for your question.
What about the initial consultation?
The initial consultation is included in your first session.
Can someone else attend my session?
We work one-to-one during a session. Another person’s presence can affect how comfortable you feel. For children, we also recommend that parents are not present during the hypnosis session. Discuss practical arrangements with the therapist beforehand.
What if I think I cannot be hypnotised?
The experience differs from person to person. Being able to focus, follow instructions and use your imagination helps you engage with hypnosis. The hypnotherapist guides you through the experience. If you have questions about this, discuss them before your session.
Will I remember the session?
Hypnosis is a state of focused attention, rather than being unconscious. You remain aware during the session and can normally remember what happened afterwards.
What do you mean by the conscious and subconscious mind?
We use “conscious” to describe what you deliberately focus on: thinking, making decisions and using willpower. “Subconscious” refers to patterns, responses, emotions and habits that can happen without you deliberately deciding each time. Our approach focuses on the change you consciously want to make.
Will you bring up things from my past?
We focus on what you want to change and what you would like to experience instead. In most cases, we use direct hypnosis to address your subconscious about your desired goal. We do not search for causes or triggers or teach you techniques.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
You do not remain stuck in hypnosis. Your hypnotherapist guides you into and out of the experience. When listening to a recording, choose a safe place where you can give it your attention. Never listen while driving or during another activity that requires your full attention.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Everyone experiences it differently. Some people notice a tingling sensation or deep relaxation; others do not notice a particular sensation.
Do you offer guarantees?
We will tell you honestly whether we think we can help with your question. You can also read experiences shared by other clients. A personal result cannot be guaranteed.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. We want you to feel safe and comfortable. What you share during your consultation is treated confidentially.
How powerful are words?
Words can be powerful and inspiring. In hypnosis, suggestions are directed towards the change you want to make.
Will I behave like people in a stage hypnosis show?
No. A stage show is designed for entertainment. Our sessions focus on your personal question and desired change. Our team is trained in hypnotherapy.
